Due to inclement weather, Atlanta Public Schools will close middle schools at 1:30 p.m. today, Jan. 28, and DeKalb County schools also will close early, the systems announced.

In an email, APS said high schools and elementary schools would close at their usual times.

DeKalb elementary schools will close at 1:30 p.m., high schools at 2:30 p.m. and middle schools at 3:15 p.m., the system announced on Twitter, a social media site. On its website, DeKalb said parents may pick up students at the schools at any time. Teachers and staff will remain at schools until all children are on buses or picked up

After-school programs in Fulton County schools, DeKalb schools and Atlanta Public Schools have been cancelled for Tuesday, Jan. 28, the systems have announced.

The systems were open for classes during the day, but cancelled after-school events due to threatening weather.

In Fulton, all evening activities, athletics practices and games, classes, and meetings scheduled in Jan. 28 also have been cancelled, the system announced. Parents of school children participating in Fulton after-school programs, such as Primetime, Extended Day, tutorials, athletics, or clubs, should make arrangements for their child to be picked up at the regular dismissal time or take the school bus home.

APS said on its website that after-school meetings, athletic practices and community events have been cancelled for Jan. 28.

DeKalb school officials said on the system’s website that decisions regarding school for students on Wednesday would be made following updates from the National Weather Service and consultation with the district’s Inclement Weather Team. Parents, teachers and District employees will be notified of any closings or delays through the district’s website, social media and local news media and by phone or emails.
