Dunwoody City Manager Warren Hutmacher plans to resign and take a job as city manager in Johns Creek.
Hutmacher announced his plans at the end of the Dunwoody City Council meeting March 24. He said he would submit his resignation March 25. Word that he had been hired by Johns Creek City Council circulated among the crowd during the Dunwoody council meeting.
“It’s with a heavy heart that that I’ll be submitting my resignation,” Hutmacher told the Dunwoody council near the conclusion of the meeting. “I want to thank the mayor and the previous mayor for making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Hutmacher, 40, was the city of Dunwoody’s first city manager. He has been the only person to hold the job.
He served as city manager in Norcross and Avondale Estates before he was hired by Dunwoody about 5 1/2 years ago.
Hutmacher said he planned to move his family from Dunwoody to Johns Creek. He said he would start work in Johns Creek April 28 and would use the next 30 days “to tie up loose ends” in Dunwoody.
“I absolutely hate to see you go,” Dunwoody City Councilman Doug Thompson said. “I know its a great career move for you. I want to thank you for all the great things you’ve done for the city.”
Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis said city officials would meet March 25 to start preparing to find a replacement for Hutmacher. Davis said he expected applicants for the job would come from “all over the country.”
“I’m disappointed to lose you,” Davis told Hutmacher.
