Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit this morning, April 22, challenging Georgia’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, according to a report from our affiliate CBS46. Atlanta couple Michael Bishop and Shane Thomas are two of the plantiffs along with three other couples from around the state.

Bishop and Thomas decided to challenge the ban to protect their children, a son and daughter. “We are proud Georgians, this is where we want to live. We want to have protection under the law of our family and our relationship here in our home state. That is absolutely important to us,” said Bishop.
