The following incidents and arrests are some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the listed period, dated through March 27.
The following information was provided by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.
Robbery
800 block of Preston Woods Trail 30328 – On March 23, a 21-year-old woman reported that around midnight two men kicked in her front door. One had a gun. They took her cellphone and left.
300 block of Northridge Road 30350 – On March 23, a 38-year-old man said that about 9:30 a.m., he was waiting for a repairman to fix the glass in a door when he was approached by two men, 18 to 20 years old, who had guns and had shielded their faces with bandanas. They took the victim’s wallet, and both fled the area on foot.
Burglary
1500 block of Huntcliff Village Court 30350 – On March 21, an employee of an apartment complex reported that someone took a Frigidaire oven, valued at $600, from a vacant apartment. The back window was left open to air the apartment out.
400 block of Summer Drive 30350 –On March 21, someone kicked in the victim’s apartment door and took a 40-inch TV. Cash and personal photos were also taken.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 23, officers responded to an alarm and found that store- front glass had been shattered. Two hookah pipes were taken.
Theft
200 block of Trowbridge Road 30350 – On March 21, a 32-year-old woman reported that she hired movers to move her to her new address, and during this process her wallet was taken from her purse. She said that she later found it in an upstairs bathroom but $750 in cash is missing.
1st block of Cedar Run 30350 – On March 21, a 62-year-old man reported that a MacBook Pro laptop and Nikon camera with lenses were stolen from his bedroom. He said that he had given a female acquaintance a key to his apartment, to stay until he returned from a vacation. She and the items, valued at just under $3,000, were gone.
5500 block of Glenridge Connector 30342 – On March 21, a 34-year-old woman said she placed her purse under her desk while she was gone from the office. She is missing ID, credit cards and $250 in gift cards which were later used or attempted to be used at Walmart, Target, Macy’s and Nordstrom stores in Dunwoody.
5500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 22, a 50-year-old man reported that while he was working out, someone pried his locker open and took his personal belongings, including credit cards, from it. The victim quickly canceled the cards.
1000 block of Johnson Ferry Road 30342 – On March 22, a 49-year-old woman reported that someone stole her iPad from a hospital delivery room. The victim did not initially report the March 1 incident but received a call from the Georgia Computer Depot in Cedartown, Ga., on March 19. An employee found an alert on the item which was placed by the victim. He told her that a man and woman, with a small child, came in and sold the iPad “for parts.” Later, when the employee charged it up, he found the alert. Cedartown PD is working with SSPD to obtain information from the store to identify a suspect. The victim’s iPad was returned.
300 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 22, a 51-year-old woman reported the theft of two topiaries, both ducks, one large and one small, valued at $250, from her business.
600 block of Hightower Trail 30350 – On March 22, a 65-year-old man reported that he and his wife were playing golf around 2:30 p.m. According to the victim, at some point, someone stole her purse from the cart. The purse contained personal ID, credit cards, jewelry and an iPhone. The victim and husband said they did not see anyone around the golf cart.
4500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 23, two clay terra cotta planters valued at $300 each, a miniature terra cotta planter valued at $100, and a concrete garden planter weighing 200 pounds and valued at $300, were reported stolen from Gallery 63 sometime between March 21 and 22.
500 block of Brookfield Drive 30328 – On March 26, a man reported that someone came into his carport and stole his son’s BMW X-5 Powerwheel.
Assault
200 block of Northwood Drive 30342 – On March 22, cops met with a 39-year-old man who said his baby’s mother slapped him during an accusation that he “had another woman.” Following a brief investigation, the baby’s mother was arrested.
Arrests
5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 22, cops were called to check out someone acting strange. They found a man looking off into the sky and who did not acknowledge the officers who were approaching him. The officers said he looked like he was under the influence of narcotics. He was detained and cuffed for safety reasons. Officers found methamphetamine in his pocket. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The man also was wanted on a warrant from Cobb County. He will be transferred to Cobb upon release.
1000 block of Johnson Ferry Road 30342 – On March 24, officers were called to assist security officers at a hospital on a theft-in-progress call. A man entered the hospital and was in the pantry on the fifth floor when he was approached by an employee. The man fled, but was later caught. He told the officers he was homeless. He had a sandwich with him at the time. He was charged with disorderly conduct and sent to the Fulton Jail, Alpharetta Annex.
7800 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 24, around 3:30 a.m., officers were called to a convenience store on a person-armed call. They spoke with the employees who pointed out a man, still inside the store. The officers spoke with the man who was not armed. They learned that he came in wanting the employees to sell him beer. Due to the time, they could not. They informed him and he said “What if I shoot you?” When he saw that the employees were taking the threat seriously, he said he was kidding, and really meant to “shoot a twenty” meaning give them $20 to sell the beer anyway. The officers spoke with the man who was shaking, and he then informed the officers that he was a citizen and they could not arrest him. They arrested him and he was charged with disorderly conduct.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 24, store security officers at a discount department store detained a woman who took several items and attempted to leave without paying for them. She told officers that she was stealing clothing to use for job interviews. She had a driver’s license in the name of another person. She was also wanted in North Carolina for FTA on a theft charge. She was arrested.
1100 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 25, just after midnight, a patrol officer passed by the pharmacy and saw a woman writing something on the wall of the store. The 22-year- old woman had written “Creative Flow, Flow in the River of Creation” on the wall. The officer reported that she told him she was having a “Chill Night” and then offered to clean the writing off the wall. She was arrested.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 25, Publix store employees detained a woman who placed items in a bag and passed the registers without paying for the items totaling $26. She was cited and released pending a court date.
1000 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 26, Special Investigation Unit members received a tip of drug activity at the Homestead Suites. Detectives later observed a man, in a car, injecting heroin. They arrested him. They later followed up with a visit to one of the hotel rooms where they spoke with a woman who consented for the officers to come in. They found other drugs including crack cocaine, marijuana and heroin. She appeared to be a street-level dealer. She was arrested and taken to Fulton County Jail.
500 block of Northridge Road 30350 – On March 26, around 11:30 p.m., officers in an apartment complex, observed what appeared to be a drug deal. They saw persons in a car, and a person who appeared to be going from an apartment to the car, which is consistent with street-level drug activity. They pulled a car, which was trying to leave through the wrong entrance (after spotting the cops) and saw one man flee the car. Two more were left in the car and were detained. One man was wanted in East Point on a robbery warrant. Both men were charged with disorderly conduct related to a misdemeanor amount of marijuana found on them. They were taken to jail. The one man was placed in a hold for East Point.
Colquitt Road 30350 – On March 28 an officer made a traffic stop and noticed that the driver’s license given to him by the driver didn’t really look a lot like the driver. The driver said it was because he had his hair cut since. The officer suspected the man was lying, so he retrieved his mobile fingerprint scanner, walked back to the car and asked for his fingerprint and, if the driver so felt like it, he could come clean and tell the truth—which he reluctantly did. The real license appeared and that showed the driver was on his second DUI suspension (since April of 2013.) He was charged with driving with the suspended license and a seat belt violation. He was taken to the Fulton Jail Annex in Alpharetta.
Other Things
8700 block of Roswell Road – Officers on March 21 spoke to a customer at a hair-weave store. The 33-year-old woman told officers that she was having a “sew-in-weave” done, and at one point, she was “stuck in her head” with the needle used for the weaving process. She wanted the incident documented in case she “gets HIV in six months.”
7000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 23, a 42-year-old woman was walking her dog behind an office complex when a man, whom she identified by name, told her she could not walk the dog there. This started an argument in which the man called her “stupid” and referred to her as a “he-she.” She said this upset her and thus wanted the insults documented. The officer did speak to the man, who said that he was merely enforcing the rules of the complex.
A man and wife reported that the wife received a voicemail from her sister’s boyfriend, and who said if she did not call her sister back, he would come over and beat her. He said he wasn’t afraid of jail because he’s been there before. They told the officer they do not know what prompted the call.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 23, a woman called and said that she was on the playground area of the apartments around 6:45 p.m. when she saw a man in the breezeway. She said that the man began masturbating. She yelled at the man that she was calling the police. He zipped up and ran from that location, which was the Building 54 area.
A woman reported that while she was driving east on Hammond Drive, she changed lanes and was stopped in traffic, in front of a car described as a red Acura. The man in the Acura threw a cup on her. He later got out and walked up to her, cursed at her and pointed a finger at her with a gun-like motion. She wants the man lectured and to pay for her car wash.
David called the police. He told the officers that roommate Jeff was angry because the dishes were dirty. Jeff grabbed David on each side of his head and shook him side-to-side a bit. David said Ian, the other roommate, witnessed part of this shaking event. David had no physical marks on him and declined EMS response.
