Marist School has completed construction on Ivy Street Center, the first addition of an academic building to its campus in more than 20 years, the school announced in a press release. The new Ivy Street Center features 17 state-of-the-art classrooms, a lecture hall, faculty offices, meeting facilities, a campus shop and a new gym.
At a dedication ceremony May 21, some 450 community members visited the campus for their first look at the center. Student Council co-presidents Christopher Bowman and Katie Hearn cut the ribbon.
“A building such as this would not be possible except for the many people who were involved in its creation,” said Rev. John Harhager, S.M., president of Marist School, at the dedication ceremony. “In celebrating the building, we are really celebrating the community that built it.”
Ivy Street Center is the signature project in Phase 1 of Marist’s Campus Master Plan. The building’s name pays homage to Marist School’s original campus on Ivy Street (now Peachtree Center Avenue) in downtown Atlanta.
Contractors began work on the building in June 2013 with the demolition of Kuhrt Gymnasium, and construction continued throughout the 2013-14 school year.
The $14.6 million building project was funded by The Way. The Hope. The Promise., Marist School’s $35 million capital campaign, the most ambitious in the school’s history. The project was finished within budget and on schedule.
