The Alliance Theatre has lined-up a star-studded cast (and director) for its production of Steel Magnolias, which opens Oct. 22. Tony Award-winning actress Judith Ivey will  direct her fellow Designing Women castmate Annie Potts, Becky Ann Baker, Mary Pat Gleason, Deirdre Lovejoy, Sarah Stiles and Zoe Winters. The play by Robert Harlan  (which was turned into a hit movie) is the story of a group of Southern women sharing life’s ups and downs in the safe-haven created in a home beauty salon.

Tickets are available now at the Woodruff Arts Center Box Office in person or by calling (404) 733.5000. Tickets are also available online at alliancetheatre.org.

It’s shaping up to be a big 2014-15 season for The Alliance with the world premiere of the Bull Durham musical, Tuck Everlasting, Blues for an Alabama Sky, James and the Giant Peach, and a theatrical staging of former US Poet Laureate (and Decatur resident) Natasha Trethewey’s Native Guard.
