The AJC is reporting that the anchor tenant for the controversial Fuqua Development project in Glenwood Park along the BeltLine will be a Kroger supermarket rather than a Walmart. The rumor that a Walmart would open at the mixed-use center has persisted for several years, but was never confirmed or denied until now.
Developer Jeff Fuqua said he had been negotiating with Walmart, but the big-box retailer had decided to pursue other locations. Fuqua said they were “very close” to an agreement with the Kroger Corporation to serve as the anchor tenant for the Glenwood project.
In May, it was announced that the Glenwood Avenue project would provide senior housing, a nine-story office building, a five story residential building with ground floor retail and a lot for food trucks. The big-box retail store would be hidden from Glenwood Avenue by the residential and street front retail. The property, currently the site of a concrete plant is near the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Bill Kennedy Way.
