
The Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at The Fox Theatre wraps up this month with three classics all celebrating milestone anniversaries: Double Indemnity, Mary Poppins and The Women.
Double Indemnity, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, screens Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The film noir about a wife (Barbara Stanwyck) who seduces and insurance salesman (Fred McMurray) to help murder her husband ranks 29th on American Film Institute’s best films.
On Aug. 17, a special “sing-a-long” screening of Mary Poppins, which turns 50 this year, will delight kids of all ages at 2 p.m. Julie Andrews stars as the magical nanny to dysfunctional family in Edwardian London with Dick Van Dyke as her chimney sweep pal.
The Women, marking its 75th anniversary, closes the festival on Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The all-star cast includes Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Lucile Watson, Mary Boland and Virginia Grey as rich, bored housewives and the power struggles in their set.
Tours of the Fox are available prior to the screenings, which also include a sing-a-long with the Mighty Moller Organ, classic cartoons and newsreels.
