Henry V was to be Georgia Shakespeare’s next production.

Georgia Shakespeare has closed after 29 years of theatrical productions. This message was posted on the company’s Facebook page:

It is with great sadness that we announce that Georgia Shakespeare has closed its doors after 29 seasons. We are grateful to all of the artists, audience, staff, volunteers, board members and funders who have been a part of this company for 29 years. We have much to be proud of and we will live on in the memory of those whose lives we touched.

The embattled theatre, which staged plays at Oglethorpe University’s Conant Performing Arts Center,  announced in September that it was suspending production on “Henry V” because of financial difficulties. A fundraiser was held recently in hopes of paying off some of the debt, but it was not enough to keep the footlights on. You can read more about the company’s financial issues at this link.

  1. This is truly sad news. Right now my heart is full of gratitude for the many fine artists who graced that stage in so many lovely productions.
