Atlanta City Councilmember Natalyn Archibong is hosting a public information meeting for Imagine Memorial, a design studio project to re-imagine the Memorial Drive corridor in collaboration with the Georgia Tech School of City and Regional Planning.
The meeting will be held in the City Hall Atrium, 55 Trinity Avenue on Oct. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. The main presentation is from 6 – 7 p.m. with an open house before and after – providing an opportunity to interact one-on-one with representatives from the design team.
During the meeting, members from communities along the Memorial Drive corridor will have the opportunity to review previous master plans developed by the neighborhoods and new data collected by Georgia Tech’s design team and offer input on how to make Memorial Drive better for residents, visitors, and businesses.
“Memorial Drive is exciting,” Archibong said. “It is the east-west spine of southeast Atlanta. The neighborhoods along the corridor are being revitalized, residential development on Memorial Drive is accelerating, and construction on the southeast segment of the Atlanta BeltLine is about to begin. People are excited about the transformation of the area and want to be a part of it.”
This is the first time the City of Atlanta, MARTA, the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Atlanta Regional Commission, Invest Atlanta, major developers, and business owners have convened in one place to discuss the future of the corridor.
“The future of Memorial Drive is going to be one of amazing change,” Archibong said. “Creating a comprehensive vision for the corridor and including everyone in the process ensures a positive outcome. This is a great opportunity for residents and business owners to tell us what they want the future of Memorial Drive to be.”
With public input, a comprehensive design plan for the entire corridor will be created to shape future development along Memorial Drive and direct the City of Atlanta, MARTA, GDOT, and ARC on future infrastructure decisions and projects.
