Gov. Nathan Deal has issued a new order that affects travelers who fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport from Ebola-affected countries. According to a report from our media affiliate CBS 46, travelers from those countries who are showing symptoms will be isolated immediately and taken to a designated hospital. Otherwise, travelers who are not showing symptoms will be placed into three categories – high-risk, low-risk and medical personnel – for monitoring. The Atlanta Airport is one of the five points of entry into the U.S. from the impacted countries.
Decaturish has a report on Saturday night’s controversial Krog Masquerade that took place inside the iconic Krog Street Tunnel on Saturday night. Of the 2,000 tickets available only half were sold. A couple of nights before the event, angry residents and artists from Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown who didn’t like the idea of a for-profit event taking place in the tunnel painted over the colorful graffiti.
The Atlanta Streetcar worked with advertising agency breensmith to create a series of “pancaked” people, cars and bikes as part of its Be Streetcar Smart safety campaign for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. The flat art is certainly attention grabbing (check out that poor guy at left) and will be placed on the streets of the 2.7-mile loop around Downtown, at stations and for advertising. The flattened car is life-size and has been placed at the corner of Peachtree and Ellis streets. “We knew to get Atlanta’s attention, we needed to come up with creative that would get people talking,” says Matt Hayes, director of client services for breensmith. “It’s impossible to miss the life-size car and bike decals in the middle of busy Atlanta roads, and the ‘pancaked people’ really pop and make you stop and think.” To create accurate life-sized car and bike decals for the streets, breensmith took a real car and bike to the “crusher” and photographed them for the “flattened” versions. There is still no firm date on when the streetcars will begin carrying passengers. See more of the pancake images at our Facebook page.
