Incumbent Republican Gov. Nathan Deal has defeated Democratic challenger Jason Carter, while Republican David Perdue has defeated Democrat Michelle Nunn for the US Senate.

Spirited campaigns by the two Democratic challengers had many believing the races would head to a runoff, but both Republicans were able to achieve more than 50 percent of the vote.
