An Atlanta Streetcar was involved in a crash with an automobile on Sunday, Nov. 23 – the second such crash in just a week. According to WSB, a motorist hit the streetcar while it was turning near Centennial Park. Last week, a driver hit a streetcar on Ellis Street. The streetcar is currently in testing phase and is expected to open before the end of the year.
Georgia State University has received a $22.8 million gift from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation to create a new interdisciplinary creative media institute overlooking Woodruff Park. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the three-story building that used to serve as the SunTrust bank lobby at the corner of Edgewood Avenue and Park Place will be transformed into a media production center. The center will provide areas for education, research, entrepreneurs and partnerships with the Georgia film, music, games and arts industries.
Mayor Kasim Reed has named Craig J. Richard as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Invest Atlanta, the economic development authority for the City of Atlanta. Richard has served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Greater Louisville Inc., where he developed their strategic plan, and coordinated 32 projects that created 3,854 jobs and $571 million in capital investment.
