Sandy Springs officials say they are considering replacing some of the city’s aging fire stations, but that they have no plans to build a new station at Abernathy and Wright roads.
“One option we are not considering is one at the Abernathy and Wright road location,” City Manager John McDonough said during the City Council meeting Dec. 16.
Residents in the area had circulated emails and contacted city officials saying they’d heard the location was being considered as a new site for Station No. 2, which is on Johnson Ferry Road.
McDonough said city officials are looking at replacing older stations, including Station No. 2. He said the fire department also will be looking for a new headquarters building in a couple of years, when city offices move from their current location into new space in the planned new City Center.
“We are looking at a number of different options,” he said.
