
Trees Atlanta will be hosting Georgia Arbor Week celebrations from Feb 15 – 23 in and around metro Atlanta. Arbor Day is celebrated on Feb. 20 in Georgia.
All Week
· #FAFATL – City Wide Scavenger Hunt – Spend some time outdoors while hunting for artists to drop art the entire week. Look out for tree themed art or art hidden around trees.
· Tree Play – Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum – Free Play. Tree Play. You Play. We Play.
Feb. 15
· Decatur Art House Paint Night – Decatur – Kick off the week by bringing your family and friends to create a tree-themed masterpiece. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Trees Atlanta.
Feb. 16 and 18
· Birdfeeder Workshops – Reynoldstown – Come learn about the trees and birds in your backyard during this family-friendly workshop. In partnership with Atlanta Audubon Society. Recently trained TreeSpeakers will present an overview of Trees Atlanta during this drop-in style event.
Feb. 19
· Oakland Cemetery Winter Tree Walk – Grant Park – This lunch time walk will cover basic winter identification of mostly native tree species. Participants will have a chance to visit a few of the city champion trees located in the cemetery, including a magnificent southern magnolia. Led by Trees Atlanta in partnership with Oakland Cemetery Foundation.
· Mandarin Oriental Annual Chinese New Year Event – Buckhead – Embracing the hotel’s Asian heritage, Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta is hosting a spectacular Chinese New Year celebration with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit Trees Atlanta.
Feb. 20
· Tiny Door Debut – City Wide Hunt – Tiny Doors is a collective effort by some mighty fine folks who are passionate about public art. Their February door will be in cooperation with Trees Atlanta. If you visit the site, share your photos with us via Instagram @TreesAtlanta.
· Milford Elementary School Tree Planting – Marietta – Trees Atlanta will be working with 3rd graders and volunteers from Bank of America to plant 41 trees at the school. The trees are being funded through a Community ReLeaf grant from American Forests.
· Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum Walking Tour – East Side Trail – Take a walk with an expertly trained Trees Atlanta docent. During the approximately 2 mile tour, attendees will learn about the BeltLine including design and history, the horticultural collections of the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum, and experience first-hand the positive changes the project is having on Atlanta’s communities.
Feb. 20
· Preserving Plants: Herbarium Basics Workshop – Reynoldstown – Learn about the process of creating herbarium specimens using simple techniques for drying plants and mounting them on paper. Everyone will go home with a small pressed plant that they have mounted themselves. All materials will be provided.
· Matinee Movie: The Lorax – Smyrna – Trees Atlanta and the Smyrna Tree Board will introduce the movie and give kids a background about the history of Georgia Arbor Day.
· NeighborWoods projects – Virginia-Highland and Decatur Cemetery – Trees Atlanta will be doing what it does best – beautifying neighborhoods. We would love your help!
Feb. 22
· Beecher Park Winter Tree Walk – Beecher Hills – This walk will cover some basic winter identification of native tree species. Participants will also see a few of the city champion trees located in the greenspace, including a champion tulip poplar over 160 feet tall.
Feb. 23
· Home School Story Time – Smyrna – The Smyrna Tree Board and Trees Atlanta will have a Georgia Arbor Day book reading, an arboretum walk, and arts and crafts project.
