Sandy Springs police have charged a 24-year-old in the death of his mother, who was stabbed early Feb. 16.

Police officers found Cathleen Tyson, 57, on the floor of her home at 7103 Spalding Forrest Court after the officers responded to a 911 call about 7:20 a.m. on Feb. 16, police reported. She had been repeatedly stabbed in the face and there were signs of blunt force trauma to her head, police said.

Her son, Patrick Wayne  Tyson, told the officers he had returned from jogging and found his mother bleeding on the floor, with two men inside the house, police said. The men fled, he said. But under questioning, police found “many inconsistencies” in his version of events. Officers searched the house and found the knife used to stab Tyson, police said.

Patrick Tyson was charged with malice murder, aggravated assault with the intent to commit murder and possession of a knife in the commission of a felony.
