April Whitt, an astronomer at Fernbank Science Center, has been selected to participate in the NASA Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA)’s Airborne Astronomy Ambassador program along with another DeKalb County School System teacher, Susan Oltman from Kittredge Magnet School. The pair will fly aboard SOFIA on several of its night-long, high-altitude flights as its 100-inch telescopes makes astronomical observations impossible with ground-based observatories due to interference from water vapor in earth’s lower atmosphere.
