On Feb. 27, more than 100 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to transform the Active Oval at Piedmont Park – fixing the infields, lining the athletic fields, and mulching. The group included volunteers from Atlanta-area U.S. military veterans from veteran service organizations (The Mission Continues, Team Red, White and Blue and Team Rubicon) working alongside volunteers from Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force).

“Those who join the military are compelled to serve. When service is complete, many of us are left longing for something else that fulfills that innate need, often making reintegration difficult,” said Sean Walker from The Mission Continues.

This volunteer effort gave participating veterans, adjusting to life at home, an opportunity to continue their service to their country and local community. “Without exception, they are eager for more joint projects like this in the future,” said Dee Clancy, Team Rubicon Region IV Program Operations Manager

Bringing together and serving both veterans and veterans groups is personal to The Home Depot, as more than 35,000 of the company’s associates have served in the military. In addition to revamping the Active Oval at Piedmont Park, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $55 million in Atlanta organizations that focus on serving local veterans, improving green spaces, enhancing local arts and offering leading healthcare solutions.
