The city of Sandy Springs plans to host a memorial service to honor the life and contributions of Eva Galambos, the city’s founding mayor, on Friday, April 24.
The service, to be held at the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, is scheduled to being at 2 p.m. and end about 3:30 p.m.
Galambos passed away April 19. Her tenacity and perseverance through a 30-plus year drive helped lead to the incorporation of Sandy Springs, the state’s first new city in almost 50 years.
“The memorial is an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the accomplishments of Eva, as I know she would prefer the community she loved so much to celebrate a life well lived,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.
Sandy Springs United Methodist Church is located at 85 Mt Vernon Highway. City Hall will close general city services at 1 p.m. Friday, the city said in a statement. Municipal Court will maintain its regular business hours.
