A small plane crash landed about 10 a.m. May 8 on I-285 at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard after taking off from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, local media are reporting. All four people on board were killed, according to AJC.com.
According to reports from Channel 2 Action News, CNN and WXIA Channel 11, the single-engine Piper departed PDK and crashed about a mile away.
The pilot of the plane, registered to a private business in Asheville, N.C., radioed, “We’re going down,” before the fiery crash, according to AJC.com.
A witness told reporters the plane clipped a tractor trailer in front of him before hitting the road and bursting into flames. The witness said no one could get anywhere near the plane because of the fire.
The plane came to rest as smoldering wreckage near a concrete barrier separating eastbound and westbound lanes. Both sides of I-285 are closed
AJC.com quoted someone at the airport as saying the pilot had just picked up several people and a dog before taking off.
