police-siren1The Atlanta Police Department arrested a man this morning who signed his name to the demand note he passed to a teller at a credit union in Downtown.

Leon Robinson, 50, began his armed robbery of Georgia’s Own Credit Union at the corner of Peachtree Street and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue by throwing a rock at the teller. He then passed the teller a note that read, “This is a stick up. I got a gun. Give me all your money and you won’t get hurt.” He had signed the letter and noted that he was an “urban camper.”

Robinson fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and was confronted by an APD officer who fired one shot at Robinson after he appeared to be reaching for a gun. The officer’s bullet struck the bag Robinson was carrying and ricocheted into a window at the Imperial Hotel. An off-duty officer working an extra job nearby used a taser to take Robinson down. He has been charged with armed robbery.
