Buckhead, home to mansions, cathedrals and high-rise condos, may soon get its own TV show.
The Hollywood Reporter says on its website that producer Will Packer has sold a drama titled “Buckhead” to NBC for the fall season.
“’Buckhead’ is described as a drama about ambition, sex and revenge set in the extravagant, high-stakes world of Atlanta politics, entertainment, churches and strip clubs,” the Reporter reported July 27.
Packer produced the film Ride Along, the Reporter website said.
The irony of this likely contrived and overacted drama is that it will accidentally do a fantastic job of showing the world what Buckhead really is like and probably not be too far from the truth in its ridiculousness. Sort of like what Scandal has done for Washington DC…
Buckhead is set to have a major network namesake drama TV series! One that will showcase what we are all about. Really? C’mon. Really?
This is great news for all Atlanta!
At first glance, media exposure of this magnitude is of the sort that no amount of money or good will could afford to buy. But ─ let’s take a second look.
“Buckhead” is described by The Hollywood Reporter as, “A drama about ambition, sex and revenge set in the extravagant, high-stakes world of Atlanta politics, entertainment, churches and strip clubs.”
Great. Just great. C’mon. Really?
If somebody wants to produce a TV-Series … movie … rap song … or a bad joke that embraces all of the words used to describe the above – fine!
But, why call it ─ “Buckhead”?
Instead, let’s just call it what it is – “Garbage”.
All of the many Buckhead civic service groups (Rotary, etc.) — associations (BBA, etc.) — public interest organizations, churches, elected representatives, volunteer leaders, livable this, or planning that —– should shake their collective heads over garbage being directly associated with where they invest their time, money and hearts for the betterment of all.
It’s garbage. Really is. And, it just stinks that it is wrapped up in a single word “Buckhead” — and then served up for mass, nationwide, human consumption.
Just call it what it is – “Garbage”.
