The 10-county Atlanta region added 60,300 new residents between April 2014 and April 2015, according to the latest population estimates from the Atlanta Regional Commission. Metro Atlanta’s population grew by 1.4 percent in the past year, compared to 1.2 percent a year earlier. The Atlanta region’s population is now 4,332,600 million, larger than 24 states.

Rainbow crosswalks are one step closer to being painted at the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Midtown , according to a report from Georgia Voice. The city’s Urban Design Commission hearing approved the crosswalks at last week’s meeting, but the Atlanta City Council will have the final vote during its Sept. 8 meeting. ‘Robert Sepulveda Jr., the founder or RSJdesign, has created a nonprofit called The Atlanta Rainbow Crosswalks to help install and maintain the public art.

The City of Atlanta has been awarded an $88,650 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program project grant by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to enhance its Emergency Notification System.
