A state senator wants a 1956 state flag with the Confederate battle emblem removed from the soon-to-reopen OK Cafe in Buckhead.
According to a report from CBS46, State Sen. Vincent Fort has asked OK Cafe owner Susan DeRose not to display the flag once the restaurant reopens after repairs from an electrical fire last December.
“It’s 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia. This is not 1955 in rural Mississippi,” Fort said.
Fort has asked the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau not to endorse the restaurant in any of its promotions or if the flag remains in place.
DeRose’s response to Fort: “Unless he’s a decorator, he needs to do what he’s paid to do and work for the people in his troubled district.”
