The AJC reports that legendary concert promoter Alex Cooley has died at age 74.

The Atlanta native established the long-gone Electric Ballroom in the 1970s, which brought in Fleetwood Mac, Rush, Kiss, Bruce Springsteen and many more, and later in another long-gone venue, Great Southeast Music Hall, which became infamous for hosting the Sex Pistols on their first American tour.

Cooley was probably best known for his years as a partner in Alex Cooley/Peter Conlon Presents, who brought music to venues around the city and created Music Midtown in 1994. A member of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Cooley also bought another famous music venue, Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, in 2011.

  3. It’s sad to see Alex go. I spent memorable evenings with friends at Alex’s Electric Ballroom and Southeast Music Hall seeing new acts like Kiss, the Ramones and Joe Jackson, all thanks to Alex.
