
The state’s department of motor vehicles – known as formally as the Georgia Department of Driver Services – has brand new digs at 400 Whitehall Street in Downtown. According to CBS46, The multi-million dollar facility began welcoming customers at 7:30 a.m. this morning. The $2.3 million building replaces the doublewide trailer that had been parked in an open area near Turner Field for more than a decade. The center is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
The Atlanta BeltLine is looking for an experienced artist to work alongside high school students to design and construct a large-scale mural at the Arthur Langford Jr. Skatepark. Funding for the mural is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company. The selected artist can receive up to $15,000 to cover artist fees and design and project costs. Site visits to view and photograph the mural location are scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. While there is no specific theme for the mural, interested artists should consider themes of togetherness and neighborhood history. Some MARTA officers will begin wearing body cameras this year, according to a report at the Atlanta Business Chronicle. MARTA expects to have 200 in use before the close of 2016. They will be used by the department’s Narcotics K-9 Specialized Patrol Unit, which guards the city’s transit cars and stations.
