Consultants helping draw up a management plan for the Nancy Creek watershed say they likely will recommend the city consider spending $15 million to $20 million over the next half century to improve water quality in the area.

The money would pay for 30 to 40 different projects, ranging from adding trash collectors to catch floating litter in streams near I-285 to projects that would provide shore restoration for Murphey Candler Lake. Shorter said the consultants expected to present their report to City Council in March or April.

“This is a long-term visionary goal,” Kim Shorter, one of the consultants, told about a dozen people Jan. 27 during the first of two public meetings scheduled at the Marist School to discuss the consultant’s recommendations. “We will not be there in five years.”
