A public information meeting to discuss the future of the Bobby Jones Golf Course will be held in the gymnasium of E. Rivers Elementary School on Friday, June 3, according to the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy.

The meeting originally was scheduled for the clubhouse at the Buckhead course.

Atlanta city officials are considering transferring the course to the state, which has promised to upgrade the facilities. But long-time golfers question the plan, including provisions to shorten the course to nine holes from its current 18.

In return for the golf course and clubhouse, which is part of Atlanta Memorial Park, the city would receive property near Underground Atlanta that is needed for the city to sell the struggling downtown mall to a developer who plans to build apartments, a supermarket, retail and restaurants.

The meeting Friday is scheduled to begin at 3p.m. at E. Rivers school, which is located at 8 Peachtree Battle Avenue NW.
