The Georgia Department of Revenue raided locations of Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles restaurants on June 21, including the one on Peachtree Street in Midtown.
According to CBS46, Gladys Knight’s son, Shanga Hankerson, is accused of running a criminal enterprise. The state said he did not pay taxes and employee withholdings for more than 10 years and now owes more than $1 million to the state. The money was allegedly used to pay for his children’s private school education and his three vehicles. Hankerson is facing six racketeering charges.
Award-winning singer Gladys Knight is not involved in the investigation and only lent her name to her son’s restaurant.
