
Atlanta Police have identified a man shot to death by an officer after he was suspected of breaking into vehicles at the Monroe Place apartments in Midtown early Thursday morning. According to CBS46, a security officer saw the suspect, Deravis Rogers, 22, breaking into vehicles and called police. An officer arrived and confronted Rogers, who then tried to flee the scene in a vehicle. The officer shot Rogers in the head as he was driving away, killing him. His vehicle crashed in the process. It is unclear if he was armed. Rogers had been previously arrested in DeKalb County for attempting to steal cars.
Atlanta City Councilman C.T. Martin says he never intended to endorse the demolition of the Central Atlanta Library in legislation he introduced (and which passed 9-3) at Monday’s city council meeting. According to Creative Loafing, Martin plans to ask for a do-over of the legislation, which will be rewritten to show support for keeping the Central Atlanta Library in Downtown. He might also ask Mayor Kasim Reed to veto the resolution that was approved.
QuikTrip has opened its first non-fuel location on the ground floor of the Viewpoint building in Midtown. Located at the corner of 6th and Peachtree, the convenience store is offering snacks, soft drinks and household goods along with an expanded QT Kitchen with made-to-order sandwiches, according to a report at 11Alive.
