Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, bringing together diplomats and senior officials from the world’s leading economies.
The venue is the Loews Atlanta Hotel on Peachtree Street in Midtown. Due to the event, enhanced security measures, street closures, and traffic restrictions are expected in the area surrounding the hotel – including Peachtree, Juniper, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 14th Streets – beginning Thursday, Oct. 29.
According to information circulated to homeowners and buildings in the vicinity, 12th Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Peachtree and Juniper streets, while Juniper will be closed between 14th and 12th streets on Friday and Saturday.
There will be intermittent closures on Peachtree Street and enhanced security screenings near the hotel. Possible delays with rideshare and delivery services in the area should also be expected during the three days.
The meeting will mark the first time Atlanta has hosted a G20, G7, or NATO summit-level event, which is designed to advance shared priorities focused on economic prosperity, energy security, and technological innovation.
Expected participants include senior foreign officials such as South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
The two-day event is a precursor to the G20 Leaders’ Summit hosted by President Donald Trump in December in Miami.
Rough Draft has reached out to the Atlanta Police Department for more details on how the meeting will affect Midtown traffic.
