Fulton County commissioners voted Wednesday to spend up to $55 million to renovate Atlanta’s Central Library, scuttling plans to build a new facility downtown. According to the AJC, the decision brings to an end months of debate over whether the county should keep the iconic building near Peachtree Center that has fallen into disrepair and is now considered too large for the library’s needs.

The Atlanta Police Department has released surveillance video of two men robbing the Labels Resale Boutique on Paces Ferry Place in Buckhead on July 9. The incident happened while the shop was full of customers around 4:30 p.m. The masked men waved guns and ordered everyone to the floor before making off with clothing and the cash register. If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.

Fulton County Chairman John H. Eaves and the mayors of 13 cities have signed an Intergovernmental Agreement that clears a hurdle for a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Transportation purposes to go before voters. On Aug. 8, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners will meet to formally call for the item to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot. The TSPLOST of 0.75¢ in Fulton County outside Atlanta would raise approximately $569 million over 5 years. Each city has identified an approved project list, including extensive collaboration with neighboring cities. Funds will be divided among Fulton County cities outside Atlanta based on population. Fulton County will provide oversight of projects in unincorporated Fulton County. City of Atlanta voters will consider separate referenda for both MARTA and TSPLOST funding on Nov. 8.
