Sandy Springs has announced a new process to issue building permits for small-scale, residential improvement projects within a day.
Permits for projects such as small room and kitchen additions, decks and sheds could be issued same day or next day, versus the previous five-day turn around, if the building plans meet the necessary requirements, according to a press release.
“We’ve worked to streamline the process to help reduce development costs and bring more certainty and predictability to permit reviews, in addition to lowering the potential cost to the homeowner,” said Assistant City Manager Jim Tolbert in the press release.
On the other hand, major commercial and new residential developments, including projects within the Chattahoochee River Corridor, will see permit review times extended by several days for deeper review, according to the press release.
The city is in the process of revising and improving its zoning and permitting processes, including the launch earlier this year of an online permit management system at build.sandyspringsga.gov. The process for speeding up small-project permits is brand new, according to city spokesperson Dan Coffer.
