A new Hampton Inn hotel will start going up in Buckhead Place this month—only about a block away from an existing, similarly named Hampton that is undergoing renovation.
McKibbon Hospitality, a hotel developer and manager, recently announced a construction start on the new Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Buckhead Place. The 186-room hotel will rise on a lot on Piedmont Road just north of Peachtree Road.

The existing Hampton Inn by Hilton Atlanta-Buckhead at 3398 Piedmont is only about 950 feet away to the north, on the same side of the street.
Hilton Worldwide, the holding company that owns the Hampton Inn brand, said there’s market demand for two Hamptons. Efforts will be made to avoid customer confusion, said Phil Cordell, Hilton Worldwide’s global head of the Hampton brand. A key difference is that the new Hampton will have “suites”— extended-stay rooms.
“The new property offering suites will provide select rooms with additional space and amenities at a different price point than the existing Hampton by Hilton property, and will also target a different customer base,” Cordell said. “We intend to provide each of the property’s booking sites with clear directions and hotel information to assist consumers as they research and book their stay with us.”
“Although the hotels are both part of the Hilton family, there are differences between the Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn & Suites brands,” said McKibbon spokesperson Krystin Olinski. “McKibbon Hospitality’s Hampton Inn & Suites will feature a substantial number of suites that cater to a more long-term business and leisure traveler.”
Buckhead Place, at the northeast corner of Piedmont and Peachtree, is a mixed-use center with retail businesses, residences and an existing Hyatt Place hotel. The new Hampton Inn & Suites was originally announced several years ago as part of a larger mixed-use redevelopment part of the center that has scaled back. The new hotel project still includes 5,000 square feet of space for retail businesses or restaurants, according to McKibbon.
“We have collaborated with McKibbon on this project for years and are excited to finally see the project get started,” said Coro Realty Advisors’ president John Lundeen, president of Coro Realty Advisors, which manages Buckhead Place. “We think the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton is the perfect complement to our existing center.”
McKibbon manages several other Hilton and Hampton hotels in the Atlanta area, including the Hampton Inn by Hilton Atlanta-Perimeter Center in Sandy Springs.
