If you commute along Peachtree Street/Road, expect delays into next year thanks to the relocation of utility poles along an 8-mile stretch from 14th to Roswell Road at Windsor Parkway. According to the AJC, the Georgia Department of Transportation is moving 100 utility poles from the curb to further back on the sidewalk. Work will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to last a year.
Curbed Atlanta reports that Redlight the Gulch, a coalition created to stop the $5 billion Downtown mixed-use development has raised more than $15,000 for its legal fight through a GoFundMe page. The coalition maintains that the sales tax emption being offered to developer CMI Group is unconstitutional. The 40-acre warren of below-level parking lots adjacent to Mercedes-Benz Stadium will have offices, hotels, homes, retail and more.
The City of Atlanta has removed the salary history question on employment applications in an effort to ensure fair hiring practices. “The City of Atlanta has taken a critical step toward the elimination of pay discrimination by removing salary history questions on employment applications,” Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said in a media statement. “Too often, salary history can trap employees in an unfair earnings cycle based on history rather than their skill set. Now, employees can be compensated based on their qualifications, experience and merit. Closing the wage gap and prioritizing equal pay policies helps ensure citywide economic parity and moves us closer to a more equitable One Atlanta.” Bottoms’ move to remove salary history questions from the city’s hiring practices builds upon Atlanta’s decision to ban a requirement for people with criminal convictions to disclose that information job applications in 2014.
