Atlanta Police have stepped up patrols in and around Piedmont Park in Midtown after a man was choked, stabbed and robbed by a group of assailants on Saturday night. The unidentified man was walking through the park listening to music on headphones when he was grabbed from behind and stabbed. According to a report from WSB, once the man was on the ground the robbers kicked the victim while demanding his wallet and cell phone. When he refused to give the passcode for the phone, the assailants ran away.

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. has announced that funding has been identified that will allow for the construction of a 0.75-mile segment of the paved Southside Trail from the southern terminus of the Westside Trail at University Avenue to the Annie E. Casey Foundation site at Pittsburgh Yards, just west of the I-75/85 overpass. This initial stretch of trail was selected due to its connection between three open and emerging job centers – Pittsburgh Yards, Murphy Crossing, and Lee + White. MARTA has been awarded a $2.6 million grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation for the purchase of six zero-emission battery electric buses to replace six diesel models. Removing the 2005 diesel versions from the fleet will reduce MARTA’s emissions by 935 short tons of greenhouse gases and reduce energy consumption by 14.3 terajoules.
