Sandy Springs Police are investigating a double shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at the Orchard Park shopping center on Dunwoody Club Drive. Police responded at 5:20 p.m. to multiple calls of shots being fired in the parking lot.

Officers found two victims at the scene, who were transported to a nearby hospital. One died as a result of his injuries. The other victim, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, was rushed into surgery and is now in stable condition, said police.

Although this investigation is very active and in the early stages, detectives were able to determine that this was not a random act of violence and learned that all those involved are known to each other,” said the Sandy Springs Police Department in a statement on Wednesday.

Additionally, both victims were at the shopping center together and arrived to meet with the perpetrator(s). Detectives continue to analyze evidence and interview witnesses, to include the surviving victim.”

Police did not name the victim who died in the incident.
