Rapper Young Thug – real name Jeffrey Williams – and 28 members of the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang have been indicted on 56 counts of racketeering activity, including murder, assault, and threats of violence. The sweeping indictment comes after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis pledged to crack down on gang activity. “We expect that in coming days weeks and months that we will bring RICO [racketeer influenced and corrupt organization] indictments against gang members, even top level gang members, to make sure that we rid them from our society,” Willis told WSB-TV.
ATLDOT Commissioner Josh Rowan has notified Mayor Andre Dickens on Monday that he will resign from his position this summer. The mayor said a nationwide search would begin for a new leader of the department. Rowan’s last day will be July 1. He first joined the city as general manager for the Renew and TSPLOST Program in 2019, and was later named commissioner in January 2020. An engineer by training with a bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Tech, he previously worked in construction and as a public sector consultant.
MARTA and Georgia Tech will expand its pilot rideshare program, MARTA Reach, to include Dixie Hills, Avondale Estates, and the cities of Alpharetta, Roswell, Forest Park, and Morrow in a phased rollout beginning May 16. MARTA Reach debuted on March 1 in West Atlanta, Belvedere, and the Gillem Logistics Center and costs the , $2.50. The service runs from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and is a ridesharing service, meaning other passengers may be picked up and dropped off during a trip. The six-month pilot is testing how on-demand shuttles can be used to make it easier and faster for customers to get to their destinations using MARTA.
