Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church (HIES) announced that Katherine Poch is its 2023 PAGE STAR student for receiving the highest SAT score in the graduating class and for her academic achievements.
As the STAR student, she picked her Upper School history teacher, Kevin Lewis, as her STAR Teacher in gratitude for his influence in the classroom, according to a news release from HIES.
High school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average to qualify for STAR nomination, according to the release.
Poch is a member of Rho Kappa History National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math National Honor Society, Tri-M Music National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. She has served as a Golden Bear Guide and a mentor in Girl Talk, the release reported. She is a member of B’nai B’rith Youth Organization and the American Jewish Committee Leaders For Tomorrow and serves as president of the HIES Jewish Student Union. A member of the HIES Orchestra, she has played viola since she was in third grade. She is on the varsity swimming, cross-country and track & field teams.
Poch and Lewis will be recognized at a banquet hosted by the PAGE program in April 2023.
The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation have sponsored and administered the PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) since its inception in 1958. Nearly 27,500 students have been honored along with the teachers selected as the most influential in their academic achievement.
