The entry road and parking lot for the Akers Mill unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area reopened on Monday as the park’s paving repair project continues.

The Powers Island unit’s parking closed today, Feb. 6, for repaving. No visitor access to the park trails or river access will be available as the project continues, which is expected to take two to four weeks. The schedule is subject to change. Visit the park website and social media (Facebook and Instagram) accounts for updates.

This paving repair project will also address critical maintenance needs and safety concerns at four popular park units.

The remaining repair projects are Interstate North and Columns Drive. The park’s repair and repaving of the entry road and parking lots will correct sub-surface and water control issues. The National Park Service Pavement Preservation Program also includes striping to improve traffic flow and parking visibility as well as replacement of unit signage.

The project is funded through the Federal Lands Transportation Program.
