On the campus of Oglethorpe University, women are celebrating 2024 National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Sunday, Feb. 11, with a basketball game, lacrosse game, and several free clinics.
The event is aimed at kids and families and is open for registration.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., clinics will be offered in volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, and lacrosse. Sessions are also available for a combination of sports, which include track and field and golf.
The Petrels will host a women’s basketball game against Millsaps College and a women’s lacrosse game against Pfeiffer University, both starting at 1 p.m.
The Women’s Sports Foundation was established in 1974. NGWSD began in 1987 as a special day in the United States capital to recognize women’s sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite women athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
