A domestic disturbance call at a Dunwoody home in late January turned into a major drug bust, netting weapons, a large quantity of drugs, and more than $100,000 in cash.
In addition, one person was charged with cruelty to children after the police found three children under the age of 5 in the single-family residence.
Police Chief Billy Grogan talked about the arrests at the Feb. 12 city council meeting while lobbying for additional personnel for a street crimes/vice unit.
“Recently we’ve had some pretty large drug cases,” Grogan said. “We had 12 or 13 guns found at the house, a bunch of drugs including fentanyl, and $100,000 in cash. That was found in a single-family house, not an apartment.”
According to a monthly report by Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton, officers responded to a “shots-fired” call at a residence on Four Oaks Drive on Jan. 23 and “could see and hear children crying.”
“Officers made entry and located several people in the residence. Drugs were in plain view. A search warrant was secured, and various amounts and types of drugs were located, as was a duffle bag containing multiple guns and cash,” the report said. “One spent shell casing was also located.”
An incident report obtained by Rough Draft showed that 11 firearms, including Glock handguns, rifles and pistols were recovered from the residence. In addition, $100,342 in cash was confiscated, as well as a large amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The report also said that 22 cell phones, a credit card embosser, credit and debit cards and vehicle titles “with various names” were discovered and confiscated. Three children, ages one, three, and four, were found in the house.
The incident report did not contain a narrative regarding the remarks made by Grogan at the meeting or Linton’s report, but Dunwoody Police Spokesman Sgt. Michael Cheek said the “summary of what occurred in the city manager’s report is an accurate summary of what happened that night.”
