Sandy Springs Education Force (SSEF) will present the 14th annual STEAM Showcase for the 11 Sandy Springs public schools and the community on March 13 from 6-8 p.m. at North Springs High School.

“This STEAM Showcase is a ‘party with a purpose.’ Not only do we gather exciting exhibits and leaders in their fields together for everyone to enjoy, we raise a large percentage of our annual budget from sponsors of this event,” SSEF Executive Director Irene Schweiger told Rough Draft.

The organization then funds STEAM Legacy grants for the public schools in Sandy Springs to provide supplemental after-school activities and clubs that enhance educational experiences for students, she said.

At this year’s showcase, SSEF plans dozens of hands-on exhibits for adults and kids of all ages. Participants will be able to:

  • Explore a mobile solar power station.
  • Learn about the latest in robotic and unmanned vehicles.
  • Engage with cutting-edge drones, ground rovers, and quadrupeds (robotic dogs!).
  • Try their hand at surgical robotics.

Visitors will hear from students about the work they accomplished in after-school clubs that SSEF sponsors via the STEAM Legacy Grants.

Community members can enjoy the opportunity to meet local leaders and luminaries in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. They will learn about and experience cutting-edge technology, Schweiger said. They also can talk to students who are passionate about learning about STEAM opportunities.

“It’s amazing to see how excited they are to talk about what they learned in their clubs and to witness their enthusiasm about technology and science, she said.

Schweiger said SSEF is thrilled to present this opportunity for people to explore many exciting, hands-on STEAM exhibits. SSEF appreciates the sponsors who make providing the STEAM Legacy grants possible

Sponsors include: RangeWater Impact Foundation and State Farm; Google Fiber; Mercedes-Benz USA and Sandy Springs Together.
