The design and engineering of the Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase III is on hold after the Brookhaven City Council unanimously agreed to defer a $2 million contract for a second time.

At the March 12 meeting, Councilmember John Funny moved for deferral of the item, and the council voted unanimously to reintroduce the item at the April 9 meeting.

Phase I of the Peachtree Creek Greenway is complete and open to the public, while Phase II is still in design and land acquisition. Phase III is planned to run from Briarwood Road to Clairmont Road.

Brookhaven has been granted federal funds to aid in design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction for Phase III, making the project subject to federal rules and regulations. The city plans to contract infrastructure advisors Moffat and Nichol to design and engineer the latest phase.

“We appreciate the staff pulling together the information for this contract. There were additional questions that we would like to have reviewed, and we just didn’t have adequate time to go through a reviewal process,” Funny said.

Funny later told Rough Draft: “City council needed more time to review the associated costs. The additional review time allows us to carry out our fiduciary responsibility to be accountable for taxpayer’s dollars.”

The cost of the contract has not changed since it first appeared on the Feb. 27 agenda.
