The Rev. Alex Moses – a former Sandy Springs resident and Riverwood High School graduate – has returned to serve as pastor of Northwest Presbyterian Church.
A six-member Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) consisting of Nate Bayer, Lisa Bacorn, Dan Laney, Bill Matthews, Laura Moye, and Anneke Woodward recommended that Moses be selected as Northwestern’s pastor.
“When the PNC inquired about fellowship and community engagement, Alex promptly responded with a flood of ideas, things that have been successful at previous churches and things he is excited to try here,” one of the committee members said in a press release. “Some are familiar to us, others would be “refreshed,” and many would be brand new. The PNC is confident Alex will bring an abundance of energy, enthusiasm, and ideas.’
Before he answered the call to the ministry, Moses served in the U.S. Army as an engineer officer from 1993 to 1998, having earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University in 1993.
While serving as an Army officer near Savannah, he began to realize a call to ministry which then led him to Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, according to the release. After serving as a pastor in three other churches for over 20 years and earning his Doctor of Ministry from Princeton Seminary, Moses accepted the call to be the pastor of Northwest.
Moses most recently served as pastor of Fayette Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, from 2010-2023.
He met his wife, Jennifer, while in Austin. She is a teacher and the couple have two sons and a daughter, Addison, Broecks, and Caroline, who attend college, high school, and middle school.
The church, located at 4300 Northside Drive, draws worshippers from Buckhead, Sandy Springs, and Brookhaven.
