Solidarity Sandy Springs will open its new location in Sandy Springs Plaza with the first shopping day expected on April 25.

The nonprofit organization’s store will use 2,800 square feet of space at 6315 Roswell Road, board member Andrea Settles said.

This is Solidarity’s seventh location since it opened at Under the Cork Tree in March 2020 during the early days of the pandemic. Its store at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church closed on Feb. 8 after organizers learned they would have to move when the church sold its south campus.

Solidarity hopes to hold a ribbon cutting for the new location on April 24, with the store opening the next day. Dates and times will be posted on Solidarity’s website.

Settles said Regency Centers, owner of Sandy Springs Plaza, has been extremely cooperative, and Solidarity has secured a longer-term lease.

When the new store opens, Solidarity asks that customers who don’t already have a shopper’s card with the nonprofit provide identification that shows that they live or work in Sandy Springs, she said.

Solidarity will celebrate its fourth anniversary with a food drive before the store opens. Donors can drop off food on Saturday, April 20, from 3-5 p.m. at the new location in Sandy Springs Plaza. Drive to the back left corner of the plaza and between the two buildings. Solidarity will be to the left around the building.

Settles said they look forward to reconnecting with volunteers in the community.

“We’re going to put a message out to all of our community, all of our existing volunteers, donors, etc. that we’re having a food drive because we’re close to opening,” Settles said.

The most requested items are peanut butter, jelly, pasta/spaghetti, canned tuna, canned chicken, and canned pineapple.

Supporters can donate online and let Solidarity shop for them. If an individual or an organization needs a food bin to collect food, email the nonprofit with the request.

As they worked to secure their new location, Solidarity has held pop-up pantries providing fresh fruits, vegetables, and some dry goods for several Saturdays. One more is scheduled on April 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors has let Solidarity use their parking lot at Lake Forrest Drive and Allen Road, Settles said.

Solidarity also continues to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the Dorothy Benson Center for seniors.
