Jazz musician Joe Alterman. (Special)

The Breman Museum will present Joyful Jazz, featuring the Joe Alterman Trio with special guest Ken Peplowski, on Sunday, April 21.

Joyful Jazz marks the second program of the three-part 2024 Molly Blank Concert Series, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024.

Attendees sold out the Joe Alterman and Houston Person: Together Again concert at The Breman in March 2023. Atlanta-based jazz pianist Alterman will give an encore of sorts for the 2024 Molly Blank Concert Series, though this time joined by a different celebrated jazz ace, clarinetist and tenor saxophonist Ken Peplowski.

“I grew up idolizing Ken and his music,” Alterman said. “His truly beautiful sound and style resonates deeply with me, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to perform alongside him in my hometown at The Breman.”

Alterman has performed at world-renowned venues including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and New York’s Blue Note. In addition to his piano work, Alterman is the executive director of Atlanta’s Neranenah Concert & Culture Series, which celebrates Jewish contributions to music and the arts.

In keeping with the Molly Blank Concert Series tradition, the concert includes a pre-performance reception, featuring professionally catered food. The reception is a chance for Breman audiences to greet music-loving friends and make new ones before the evening’s show. The reception starts at 4 p.m., with the performance beginning at 5 p.m.

“The Molly Blank Concert Series was a new beginning for this institution,” The Breman Executive Director Leslie Gordon said. “Now, as we continue to diversify and expand our performance offerings year-round, we move closer to our goal of becoming a cultural center, known for exciting, enriching performances as much as for outstanding exhibitions of art, culture and history.”

The final Molly Blank Concert Series show will be the revue There’s No Business-Like Show Business: A Tribute to Irving Berlin on June 2.

Joyful Jazz tickets are $60 for General admission, $50 for Breman members and $18 for students.
