Earth Day is officially on Monday, but most related events are happening on Saturday. We’ve rounded up a few that offer hands-on activities and education for the whole family.
Kids Day at Live Thrive
In celebration of Earth Day, Live Thrive hosts its annual Kids Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at CHaRM DeKalb, 1221 Columbia Dr. This fun outdoor event welcomes children and families to enjoy interactive booths and hands-on activities like transforming plastics into building materials, visiting a petting zoo, learning about composting and stormwater, making crafts and cars from recycled materials, and much more. The event is free.
Earth Day at Ponce City Market
Ponce City Market in Old Fourth Ward is hosting a series of events starting Friday with a Climate Techies Meetup up in the Rivian showroom from 5 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a Climate Workshop from 3-6 pm., a Sustainable Business Market featuring local products and services from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Sustainability Showcase on Monday, April 22, from 5-8 p.m. featuring local leaders and industry innovators. Trees Atlanta
If you want to get out into nature for Earth Day, Trees Atlanta has a day of events on Saturday including tree care in Inman Park and Chosewood Park, learning to prune in Peachtree Hills and Chosewood Park, forest restoration at the Urban Food Forest, and tree tours of The Carter Center and the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail. Earth Day Festival at Phoenix Park III
Bring the whole family to Phoenix III Park on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. for the Earth Day Festival sponsored by Environmental Community Action and Ike SMART CITY. There will be games, prizes, bounce houses, and food vendors, as well as representatives from diverse businesses and organizations committed to sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and social responsibility. The park is located at the intersection of Connally Street and Georgia Avenue in Summerhill. Clean up the Woods
The Friends of Pea Ridge Park in DeKalb County will be hosting an Earth Day cleanup event to clean the stream, remove branches and trash, pull out weeds, and clean benches and tables in the park. You can volunteer at this link.
Georgia Bird Fest
The 9th annual event will feature the Inaugural Georgia Bird Fest Summit on Saturday, April 20, in Athens, Georgia. Dr. J. Drew Lanham, poet laureate, McArthur fellow, and distinguished professor of wildlife ecology at Clemson University will give the keynote address on “Coloring the Conservation Conversation.” The event will from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Classic Center in Athens. Earth Day at Piedmont Park
All Saint’s Episcopal Church will host a special Earth Day service in the park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Clara Meer Dock. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, snacks, and their pets for this special event.
