“Crazy Rich Asians” author Kevin Kwan is back with another glamorous comedy of manners–and this one just might be his wildest romp yet.

“Lies and Weddings” is published by Doubleday

Eden grew up next to the Greshambury estate in England, home to her best friend, Rufus, and his legendary family. Despite having neither a title nor wealth, Eden has long had Rufus’s heart. But when an extravagant Gresham family wedding on the Big Island of Hawaii, filled with the who’s who of sultans, barons, oligarchs, and Instagram heiresses, ends in a volcanic eruption that burns down the family’s reputation along with the nuptials, Eden finds herself caught in the crossfire of Gresham family plans. As it turns out, the legendary Gresham family trust is gone, and behind the yachts, high-end fashion deals, and magazine covers lie mountains of debt. For Rufus’s mother, the scheming Countess of Greshambary, the only solution is to marry Rufus off to a rich woman.

As in his previous novels, Kevin Kwan takes us across the globe, from the luxury resorts of Hawaii to the hot-air balloon rides over Marrakech, flashy parties in LA, and generations-old estates in England, to explore the age-old question of whether true love can conquer all.  Should Rufus marry a rich heiress and save his family’s fortune and prestige? Or should he confess his love to Eden, only to squander his wealth and the Greshambury legacy?

Filled with secrets and scandals galore, this captivating read will hook you from the first page—not only because of the extravagance of each setting but also because of the pure drama. Despite the conniving and deceitful Countess of Greshamburry, you can’t help but root for this family as they struggle to revive their reputation.

Of course, it is the perspective of smart, lovely, grounded Eden, an outsider to this world who gives this novel its heart. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, too, especially with Kwan’s hilarious footnotes adding to the overall humor of the book. You won’t be able to put it down!

“Lies and Weddings” by Kevin Kwan will be released by Doubleday on May 21. Purchase your copy at Virginia Highland Books or A Capella Books.
