A missing 5-year-old girl was declared dead after being found in an apartment complex swimming pool on Friday morning, according to Sandy Springs Police.

Officers were dispatched at 8:42 a.m. on June 21 to help find the missing girl who had special needs, according to an SSPD news release.

After briefly searching the area, the child was found in the pool. An officer jumped into the pool and brought her out of the water. First responders began life-saving measures on the child.

She was then transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she was declared dead.

The Criminal Investigation Division is continuing an investigation, the news release said.

The SSPD news release did not include the location of the incident.
